How To Maximise Security for a 12 Step Meeting On Zoom

CoDA Intergroup’s goal is to maximise the security of our meetings on Zoom, while facilitating members’ easy access to meetings. Here are the Zoom security settings we have chosen as our meetings have evolved, and as per guidance from other 12-step programmes.

1. Go to www.zoom.us

2. On the top right corner of the page, click ‘Sign in’

3. Type in your email address and password for the account, and click ‘Sign in’

4. On the left of the page, under the heading ‘personal’, click on the 5th subheading: ‘Settings’

5. The word ‘Meetings’ will appear in bright blue up at the top of the page.

The first heading on this page is the ‘Security’ heading. Scroll down to find ‘Only authenticated users can join meetings from Web client’. Click the button so it’s grey.

Scroll further to find the heading ‘Schedule Meeting’. Find ‘Participants video’. Click the button so it’s grey.

Shortly after this, find ‘Allow participants to join before host’. Click the button so it’s grey.

Just after this, there’s a section on Enabling Personal Meeting ID – we do not recommend this. Find ‘Enable Personal Meeting ID’. Click so button is grey.

Beneath it you’ll see ‘Use Personal Meeting ID (PMI) when scheduling a meeting’. Click so button is grey.

Beneath that, you’ll see ‘Use Personal Meeting ID (PMI) when starting an instant meeting’. Click so button is grey.

Beneath that, you’ll find ‘Mute all participants when they join a meeting’. Click so button is blue.

Just after this, you’ll find the heading ‘In Meeting (Basic)’. Here, you’ll find ‘Require encryption for 3rd party endpoints (SIP/H.323)’. Click so button is blue.

A few items after that, find ‘Auto saving chats’. Click so button is grey.

Scroll a little further to find ‘File transfer’. Click so button is grey.

Scroll a little further to find ‘Who can share?’. Click on ‘Host Only’ so the circle beside it is outlined in blue.

Scroll a little further to find ‘Allow removed participants to rejoin’. Click so button is grey.

Beneath this is ‘Hide participant profile pictures in a meeting’. Click so button is grey.

Just after this, you’ll find the heading ‘In Meeting (Advanced)’. Here, you’ll find ‘Report to Zoom’. Click so button is blue.

Scroll a little further to find ‘Far end camera control’. Click so button is grey.

Scroll a little further to find ‘Auto-answer group in chat’. Click so button is grey.

Scroll a little further to find ‘Allow live streaming meetings’. Click so button is grey.

Scroll a little further to find ‘Request permission to unmute’. Click so button is grey.
